Muscadine grape is king here. Many refer to the grape as the passion fruit of the South. Other varietals have difficulty growing here because of the humid and hot climate.

Bisquits, collard greens, burgers and barbequed meats dominate the food scene here, while along the coastal area fresh fish, shrimp and oysters rule.
